I recommend you start
practicing the basic strokes first. It really helps with getting a feel for the Apple Pencil, and it prepares you for writing letters and words. Try out different brush sizes to see which one fits your writing style best. Once you are very comfortable with the strokes, you can move on to the lowercase letters, uppercase letters and numbers. I've made handy cheatsheets for you so that you can practice to your heart's content ? If you are more advanced already, my Sand Lettering and Painted Lettering tutorials:
